Help For Panic Attacks

Because panic attacks can be unpredictable, they can be immensely terrifying when they happen. How you might ask, do we stop a severe attack? It’s important not to try and stop a panic attack by fighting it. When experiencing panic symptoms don’t let the sensations dictate your actions.

Although distressing, it’s better to accept the symptoms and sensations and let them dissipate. Shockingly anxiety attacks can be so severe that sufferers think they are dying. Unfortunately symptoms of an attack can be very similar to having a heart attack.

Stabbing pains in the chest, tingling sensations, shallow breath; these can be disturbing and frightening symptoms. Keep in mind whatever might happen that you cant die from having panic attacks. Next time you experience one, remember to stay calm and focus on your breathing.

Often people hyperventilate when having an anxiety attack which triggers other symptoms. Keep control of your breath by taking deep and slow breaths. By doing this you can avoid hyperventilating and prevent the attack from getting worse. Getting up and walking about can also help you feel more at ease.

Sometimes the aftershock of an anxiety attack can last for hours so it’s important to try and stay relaxed. Do something mentally or physically engaging to divert your attention away from feelings of anxiety. You can read a book, watch a movie, bake a cake or anything to help relax you and keep your mind off anxiety.

If you suffer from an anxiety disorder, it’s important to get help. Ignoring your problem won’t make it go away. It’s been proven that therapies have a high success rate with anxiety disorders. Without treatment a person’s condition might worsen. Sufferers without treatment are also likely to experience sleep problems and depression.

Suffering from an anxiety disorder is bad enough but to have another disorder as well makes life even more unbearable. A person suffering from depression experiences feelings of gloom and despair often. Depressed people feel insignificant and feel that they have no life purpose. They lose all motivation to do anything, even things they once enjoyed.

It’s not surprising to hear that it’s far more difficult to cure anxiety depression. Those with anxiety and depression are more prone to binging, drug use and even suicide. Although recreational drugs and alcohol might provide temporary relief in some people, long term use can actually worsen the problem. Some sufferers become reliant and find it hard to stop drinking or using drugs.

Sleep disorders are also prevalent in those with anxiety disorders. A majority of people who suffer from anxiety disorders also complain frequently of the inability to sleep. Racing anxious thoughts and physical tension can keep a person feeling awake. When it’s time to sleep they might feel wired and restless and unable to relax enough to sleep.

After a poor night sleep, anxiety symptoms can feel worse combined with fatigue. Nights and even weeks of sleeplessness can occur which can be awfully difficult to deal with. It goes without saying that it is better to treat disorders such as anxiety and depression sooner rather than later. Get professional help and don’t ignore anxiety and hope it will disappear.
